On the occasion of the celebration of Shouter Baptist Liberation day, I wish to pay special tribute to a deceased member of their flock, the late Pastor Lacaille of Maitagual, San Juan.
I do so against the background of my being christened, confirmed and married in the RC church, and, also, a retired RC school principal.Pastor Lacaille always hailed out to my parents when passsing our home on lower Bushe Street and, almost invariably, came in to chat with them. Thus from the time I was a toddler to young adulthood, I was able to observe this gentleman at close quarters.
This Baptist leader epitomised what being a Christian is all about. He was a very polite, soft-spoken individual who possessed the virtues of charity, humility and compassion for his fellow man, very slow to anger, with a passionate belief in his creator, never one to speak ill of another and ever willing to lend an ear and give sound advice.
I consider it a great privilege and honour to have known this pious member of the Shouter Baptist following, who was persecuted and prosecuted for practising his religion but never wavered an iota from his convictions and beliefs. May God bless this good and faithful servant and may he rest in peace.
Greetings to all members of the Shouter Baptist faith.
