GEORGETOWN–Guyana's military says it will court martial a lieutenant charged with leading soldiers into a mining camp near Venezuela to steal money and gold.
Defence Force Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best said late Thursday that the trial of the unidentified officer will begin soon. He said the other four were demoted after January's incident with one ordered to serve 42 days in an army detention centre.
The incident is one of several in recent months that prompted the defence ministry to warn miners not to submit to raids or inspections by soldiers unless they are accompanied by officers from the geological commission. (AP)
