Denesh Jackree and Christina Ferreira tightened their grip on their respective divisions on the penultimate day of the Republic Bank Junior Open Golf Championships in Moka, Maraval, yesterday.
Jackree, who finished fourth in the Tatil Open in January, followed his opening day 74 with another solid round of 76 to end the second day with a total of 150 in the boys 16-17 category.
He now holds a 13-shot lead over Wan Ju Lee (163), who carded 81. Arvin Bhim (164) was third after an improved showing of 79 on the second day.
Defending girls 16-17 champion, Ferreira, shot 83 on day two following a 78 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 161.
Sabrina Chan is second with a total of 206. Liam Bryden (155) took control of the boys 14-15 category, pulling seven shots clear of Varun Singh (162).
Both players were tied after the first day. Ysabelle Lawrence remains two shots ahead of Sabrina Mitchell in the girls 14-15 category after both players carded 80 on day two.
In the boys 11-13 grouping, Sam Avey extended his three-shot lead over Zach Correia to a seven-stroke margin.
Serena MacKenzie, meanwhile, has all but wrapped up the girls 11-13 division with another solid showing of 89 on day two.
MacKenzie totalled 171 after two days, trailed by Karina Matabadal (189). Also on Thursday, Irfan Emamalie and Kyndall Campbell won the six-hole tournament for boys and girls, respectively.
Today, the final day of the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships will feature a three-hole competition.
This year marks the 12th consecutive year of sponsorship by Republic Bank and the fourth in successive years as the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships.
The tournament is hosted and facilitated by the T&T Golf Association.
