Forward Fabrice Fisher was the difference between the two teams, as his 36-point match-high total carried Valencia to the final of the Arima Basketball Knockout Competition, with a comfortable but spectacular come-from-behind, 85-81 win over High Voltage, at the Princes Royal Park Basketball Court, Arima, on Saturday night.
The massive win put Valencia into the title match against La Horquetta, which was scheduled to jump off at 7 pm, last night.
Valencia had trailed through three-quarters (22-24, 35-41, 64-65) of the encounter but collected itself dramatically in the final stage to pull through a famous win.
Fisher led all scorers on the evening and was helped on the scoresheet by Sylvester Thomas and Jeffrey Saunders who bagged 12 and 10 points, respectively. Saunders was unable to finish the match after he pulled off with an ankle injury.
For High Voltage, which stormed into the semifinal with a less-than-marginal 78-57 win over O'Meara on Wednesday, Shawn Lawrence yet again led the pack. This time he scored 21 points, followed by Chris Nelson, Andy Miller and Randy Greenidge, who chipped in with 18, 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Last night, Valencia would have been in action against the first semifinal winner, La Horquetta, which trounced Sangre Grande 67-45, on Friday.
The competition has been staged in memory of former Arima-based basketball co-ordinator Earl John.
