National Security Minister Jack Warner yesterday touted himself as "the best" Works and Transport Minister, boasting he was the only one who built so many roads and fixed so many bridges.Warner was addressing members of law enforcement bodies at a recognition and awards ceremony at the Ministry's Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, offices yesterday.
He added: "I go on record that no minister before me–I don't want anybody to say it for me–I will say it for myself... but none has displayed the energy and enthusiasm and the will to get the work done as I have displayed."As Minister of Works and Infrastructure, no minister has built more roads, bridges than me. When you see what was being built by me in the short space of 14 months, you can understand the energy which I had and still have."
Warner added that the reason why he was moved to the National Security Ministry was to "transport" that same energy to fight crime."Come hell or high water we shall get the work done and we shall bring down crime. You shall be able to do window-shopping which is a lost art and to hold hands and walk the streets as they did long time," Warner said.
He said he visited Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, and the conditions under which members of the T&T Coast Guard operated were less than comfortable."I have gone down to Tetron and saw for myself where even corbeaux refuse to live. In spite of all of this, these officers in the various units continue to protect and serve."
