Hermitage Youth Organisation (HYO) took the inaugural South Zone Lake Asphalt T20 crown with a crushing victory over Cosmos on Friday night at Wilson Road in Penal.
In front of a good sized crowd, Cosmos batted first and crashed to 97 all out off their 20 overs. The man doing the damage for the HYO boys was spinner John Ross Jaggessar who claimed 3/15 off his four overs.
When HYO took to the crease, they found the going a lot easier and anchored by an unbeaten 50 from Lex Tom, they romped to victory at 98 for four off just 13 overs.
For their efforts HYO walked away with $7,000, while Cosmos got the runners-up purse of $3,500.
Prior to the game president of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath met with the players, accompanied by chairman of the South Zone Leo Doodnath.
HYO got to the finals by defeating Debe Youth Foundation, while Cosmos got the better of PowerGen. Doodnath, speaking to T&T Guardian said he was very happy with the way things went this season in the T20 competition and was already looking forward to the next season.
"When I turned up at the ground to see the finals, I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout I saw. It was wonderful to see so many people coming out to support the cricket and it shows that the game is alive and well in our area.
"I want to sincerely thank the members of the Zone who worked tirelessly to make this a success," he said.
Doodnath made special mention of Rudolph Ali and Jai Ramdhanie.
