Medium pacers Tion Webster and Sherwin Peters created history yesterday at the Queen's Park Oval when they combined to dismiss Diamond for 16 runs, believed to be the lowest score recorded in a National first division match.
Eighteen-year-old Webster and twenty-year old Peters both grabbed five wickets apiece to skittle Diamond out in their second innings as the Parkites recorded an unlikely win by an innings and 51 runs.
Webster finished with 5/11, while Peters took 5/5. An excited Queen's Park coach David Furlonge said after the match: "They are the future of the club."
Earlier, Jonathan Augustus top-scored with 74 to lead the Parkites to 333, giving them a lead of 67 on first innings. Marlon Barclay contributed 62, while Webster made 45. Shivan Narine (3/54) and Fareel Jugmohan (3/83) snatched three wickets apiece for Diamond. At that point a draw looked imminent but Webster and Peters had other plans and bowled their team to victory.
At the Wilson Recreation Ground in Penal, left-arm spin bowler Derone Davis ensured Clarke Road finished the season in second position with a crushing 174-run win over Caldrac. Caldrac, resuming yesterday on 102/7 in their first innings, got to 166 all out. Anthony Aziz made 58, while former national spin bowler Mukesh Persad took 4/60.
Clarke Road began their second innings with a 138-run lead. National wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran made 30 before they declared on 121/8. Christopher Vincent followed up his 3/72 in the first innings with 3/36. Caldrac, chasing an unlikely 260 for victory, were undone by Davis, who bagged 7/20. Despite a valiant 45 from Royston Crandon, Caldrac could only muster 85. Clarke Road got 26 points from the match to finish on 209 points.
Troy Cornelius and Atiba Alert also led Merry Boys to an outright win over Bamboo by an innings and 33 runs. Powergen, which wrapped up the title on Saturday, held on for a draw against Moosai. Moosai finished in third position on 200 points, while Powergen finished on top on 219 points.
