One always knows when elections are in the air. The would-be's, would-like-to-be and have-beens start to come out of their insecure corners and seek to persuade citizens into believing that they have the country at heart. And now with both the Chaguanas West by-election and soon, local government election due, up pops Dr Kirk Meighoo and his Democratic National Assembly (DNA) party, coming out of what seemed like political oblivion to contest the Chaguanas West by-election.
The question has to be asked, "Is Dr Meighoo really serious?" The last time we heard or saw him was in the 2010 elections and before that some time in 2008. At that time he also told us that "he was not ready to say who the executive members of his DNA were," and now the same old tune is being sung. Could this be the start of game-show politics, or is he waiting for a partner to "Let's make a deal?"
With the Chaguanas West by-election to be held on July 29, Dr Meighoo is yet to measure his support but is "quietly preparing for the 2015 general election," as he sees his DNA party as representative of a new era of politics and for all "who are fed up of the bacchanal and confusion and corruption and the old era.""A new era of politics," where did I hear that before? Perhaps Dr Meighoo should consider a bye-bye election instead.
