Fresh off a bronze medal placing in the Under-13 girls singles at the eighth Latin American Table Tennis Championships, which ended in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Monday, Jasher De Gannes will target more accolades when she competes in the Scotiabank Schools Table Tennis Championships.The tournament featuring the top junior players in the country serves off from 9 am at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Saith Park, Chaguanas from 9 am today and continues tomorrow.De Gannes, 12 was a member of the senior women's team which won a fourth Caribbean title in St Lucia two months ago and also paired with France-based Rheann Chung for women's doubles silver.
The reigning Caribbean U-13 champion led T&T to 18 medals at the eighth Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation Pre-Cadet Championship at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Georgetown, Guyana.She steered the U-13 girls team, which also included Shanekah Johnson, Ray J Thomas and Chelsea Fong, to the team title and then won gold in the mixed doubles with Joshua Maxwell, as well as the girls doubles with Johnson and the singles crown.De Gannes of St Andrews Anglican is also the reigning U-11 and U-13 Solo national junior singles champion.Two other main attractions will be Aaron Wilson and Arun Roopnarine.
Wilson is the reigning Tobago Open champion and also won four titles at the Solo National Junior Championship in August while Roopnarine won the National Classified Championship Men's A-1 Division and three titles at the Solo Juniors.Today, the schools team competition will be contested while tomorrow, the Open and U-15 singles will be played.In addition the qualifying tournament for the U-11 and U-13 to the November 9 finals at Scarborough Secondary School, Tobago, will be played.
