A man involved in a shootout with police in Laventille was warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital up to late yesterday.Once released from hospital, the suspect is expected to be charged with firearm and shooting offences.At approximately 1.45 pm yesterday, there were reports of gunshots near to the Morris Marshall Community Centre in Trou Macaque.When officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force arrived on the scene, they were confronted by a man carrying an assault rifle.
Reports are there was a shootout during which the gunman was wounded. He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery. The suspect was warded in a stable condition up to yesterday night. On Boxing Day two men were shot dead in Laventille.The Homicide Bureau estimated that the country's murder toll has reached 402.

Police search for driver who forced teen to do sex act Point Fortin police are searching for a man who abducted a schoolgirl and forced her to perform oral sex on him. The 13-year-old Form One student went to the station on Friday, accompanied by her mother, and reported the incident. The girl told police that around 6 am that day she boarded a grey car in Point Fortin to go to her aunt's house in Guapo.She knew the driver by seeing him around the area, police said.
The girl sat in the front seat.Instead of taking her to her relative's house, police said he drove to a road in Guapo, where he removed her top and bra. He forced her to perform the sex act on him and squeezed her private part. The man then dropped her off at New Village, Point Fortin. WPC Cobham is investigating.
