Police have shot and killed a 37-year-old Claxton Bay man after he allegedly went on a shooting spree at a gated community in Point Lisas on Thursday night. Dead is fisherman/crab catcher Ramlal Ramnarine, of First Street, Pranz Gardens. Police reports state Ramnarine was killed after he shot at police inside the gated Savonetta Estate, Southern Main Road, Point Lisas. However, Ramnarine's family disputed the police version. They claimed Ramnarine was unarmed and he went to fish at an abandoned pond inside the residential development. It was something, they said, he was accustomed doing.
Ramnarine's sister, Diane Kumarsingh, 28, said her brother was not armed and did not shoot at police. "Is fishing a crime? I know it's trespassing but, 40 shots for trespassing? I went to Couva (District hospital) and see him. I count about 19 shots in his upper body I did not see his lower part. His two hands were mash up. I believe there is more to this story," she said. Kumarsingh claimed her brother was killed because he entered the private community. The family said they want a thorough investigation.
