Po­lice have shot and killed a 37-year-old Clax­ton Bay man af­ter he al­leged­ly went on a shoot­ing spree at a gat­ed com­mu­ni­ty in Point Lisas on Thurs­day night. Dead is fish­er­man/crab catch­er Ram­lal Ram­nar­ine, of First Street, Pranz Gar­dens. Po­lice re­ports state Ram­nar­ine was killed af­ter he shot at po­lice in­side the gat­ed Savonet­ta Es­tate, South­ern Main Road, Point Lisas. How­ev­er, Ram­nar­ine's fam­i­ly dis­put­ed the po­lice ver­sion. They claimed Ram­nar­ine was un­armed and he went to fish at an aban­doned pond in­side the res­i­den­tial de­vel­op­ment. It was some­thing, they said, he was ac­cus­tomed do­ing.

Ram­nar­ine's sis­ter, Di­ane Ku­mars­ingh, 28, said her broth­er was not armed and did not shoot at po­lice. "Is fish­ing a crime? I know it's tres­pass­ing but, 40 shots for tres­pass­ing? I went to Cou­va (Dis­trict hos­pi­tal) and see him. I count about 19 shots in his up­per body I did not see his low­er part. His two hands were mash up. I be­lieve there is more to this sto­ry," she said. Ku­mars­ingh claimed her broth­er was killed be­cause he en­tered the pri­vate com­mu­ni­ty. The fam­i­ly said they want a thor­ough in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
