Member of Parliament for Diego Martin East Dr Amery Browne has distributed 22 nebulisers to children with chronic asthma. The private sector donation came from a source, however, who wishes to remain anonymous. The presentation to lucky children from the North East, West and Central Diego Martin constituencies took place at his constituency office yesterday. Social worker and constituency administrator Eunice Gittens, along with pediatrician and volunteer at the event Dr David Bratt assisted the MP in making the event a success. Gittens selected children who were most in need of the equipment.
According to Browne: "The drive was triggered as a result of a child who reportedly died during the curfew hours of the state of emergency last year, having not received medical treatment in a timely manner." Bratt said: "It is wonderful that Dr Browne has decided to embark upon such a drive, as the nebulisers will be very useful to the children that are most in need." He said since the Medical Infirmary at St James has been shut down, parents were now forced to take their children to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex a longer distance away, which is difficult for some children with frequent asthma attacks.
