Soca superstar Machel Montano says he is definitely seeing some "HD" potential in the performances of finalists at the bmobile SynergyTV Soca Star Season 7 competition. "Don't be surprised if in the years to come you see someone from the competition in the HD band," Montano said. He was speaking to the media on Thursday night after performing at the finals of the competition held at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Port-of-Spain. Montano was just one of the several artistes who lent vocal support to the promising young soca stars. While teenagers enjoyed the luxury of paying just $40 to see artistes like Montano, Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez, Blaxx, Bunji Garlin, Kerwin Du Bois, Maximus Dan and Patrice Roberts, the real cheers and screams erupted when the seven finalists gave their performances.
And while crowd favourite Voice, gave a crowd pleasing performance, entering the stage on a spaceship, it was Neil Alexander who got the nod of approval from the judges. In second place was Voice, followed by John O'Cool. The other finalists were Tiny, Jovan James, Keda Tempro and Tanyan. During the competition, participants were exposed to vocal training as well as mental and physical challenges and were taken through the process of perfecting crafts. This season of the competition, which is popular mostly with teenagers, saw former host Supa Jigga TC taking up the role as a judge and radio announcer Randy Mansoor (Mr Smooth) taking up hosting duties. Fans enjoyed guest performances by former Soca Star finalists RasStar, Kimba Sorzano, Erphaan Alves and Swappi as well as Prophet Benjamin, Shal Marshall, K Rich and Kerwin Du Bois.
