After a league campaign which followed more than several unfavourable results, UTT continued to blossom in the MACKESON Super 10 Basketball League (SBL) Knock-out tournament, booking a place in the final after a stunning 89-79 win over National Flour Mills (NFM) at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Thursday night. The win saw UTT earn a spot in the title deciding match, against league winners Sando Petro Jazz, which defeated Caledonia Clippers 80-68, in the other semi-final, on Tuesday night. Jeffrey Harris scored eight vital points in the fourth quarter which helped UTT take an unassailable lead, heading into the final moments. Harris came away with 19 points, following forward Kern George, who led all scorers on the day with 27 points.
UTT led 45-35 at the end of two sessions, and controlled the match throughout in a tactically-defensive dominated encounter. NFM's former junior forward Kerry McMillian way the team's top scorer with 19 points, and he grabbed four rebounds, while veteran point-guard Kerry "Piper" Westfield finished on 15. Just over two weeks ago, UTT stunned title favourites and 2010/2011 champion Detour Shak Attack 87-86 to advance to the semifinal. That match also saw Harris come up big, scoring the final six points for the team in the most integral closing seconds. The knock-out final will jump off on Tuesday at the same venue from 8.30 pm.
