Kale Wilson gloriously ended his junior squash career last year by being crowned the Caribbean Boys U19 champion in July 2011. This was the first time that T&T won the Boys U19 Caribbean championship in 20 years. Wilson then started as a freshman at the University of Western Ontario, Canada in September and immediately became a member of the varsity squash team at Western. Western has retained its number one position in squash among universities in Canada for the past 29 years with its latest title being won earlier this month and its team looks forward to making a record 30 consecutive years in the top position in 2013. Ignoring the strong desire to come home for Carnival during 'Reading Week', Wilson opted to attend a training programme in Toronto for the week February 20th to 24th at the National Squash Academy which is headed by Jonathan Power, a former world number one player. He ended the week of training by playing in the Toronto Mayfair Open graded tournament in the highest 'A' category. The first match for Wilson was on the evening of Friday Feb 24th and although tired from training that morning he managed to defeat his opponent 3-1 in the first round. On Saturday after being well rested he was able to defeat his opponent 3-0 in the morning's match which put him into the semi-finals. By the afternoon Wilson was again fully recovered and made his way into the finals by winning his semi-final match 3-0. On Sunday afternoon Wilson was then set for the finals which he confidently won 3-1. Without much of a break he then returned to Western University to prepare for a mid-term exam the following day. Congratulations to Wilson on continuing to fly the T&T Flag high!
