Laventille East/Morvant MP Donna Cox says she would have to recuse herself from the investigation into an alleged threat between herself and adviser to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar Gary Griffith since she is a member of the Privileges Committee. The incident took place in Parliament during a debate of no confidence against Persad-Bissessar on March 3. It was brought to the attention of Speaker Wade Mark.
Interviewed yesterday during a celebration hosted by the People's National Movement Women's League at Balisier House, Tranquility Street, Port-of-Spain, Cox said she would not be able to "comment further," but "I think it has started and I haven't been called as yet. I am not sure who would be carrying out the investigation.
"Actually, I am a member of the Privileges Committee so I will have to recuse myself." Quizzed on whether Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley supports the firing of Griffith, Cox added: "Actually, yes, because I was not the aggressor. I can safely say that. I gather he was not pleased with what I said about him in Parliament."
Meanwhile, Cox said she was not disturbed about her safety. "I am from Morvant and there is no need to fear Gary Griffith." During his address, Rowley said "the biggest problem was the underperformance of the managers in the country. He paid kudos to the women of T&T for the strides they had made. But he noted the "real problem was the underperformance of the males."
