Horizons Art Gallery presents Barbadian artist Romell Yearwood and Trinidadian artist Karen Hale Jackson in a joint exhibition. Romell Yearwood has received some of the most prestigious awards for art in Barbados, the Ivan Payne Award for Excellence in Art and the Central Bank of Barbados Purchase Award. Known for his creativity and imagination, Yearwood works in a range of techniques, including painting, sculpture and costume illustration/design. He has taken part in numerous group and solo exhibitions in the Caribbean. This latest body of work is a response to the vibrant beauty and diversity of T&T nature, primarily the birdlife. With hues and movement the paintings evoke the energy and uniqueness of the Caribbean's natural environment.
Local artist Karen Hale Jackson says she was born to paint, and while growing up spent every free moment with a paint brush in her hand. With maturity came the demands of a family and it was not until 2000, while laid-up with a foot injury, that she started to paint seriously again. Since then Hale Jackson has exhibited regularly in Trinidad. Her acrylic paintings reflect her many interests: her love of the sea; her enthusiasm for hashing through tropical forest with its rivers, birds and abundant plant life; her fondness for animals and delight in the music and color of Carnival. Developing her painting style and method is a continuous learning experience for her and she is constantly evolving.
This joint exhibition will be held at Horizons Art Gallery, with a grand opening March 20 from 7-8.30 pm. Viewing continues daily until March 31, Monday to Friday 9 am-5.30pm, Saturday 9 am-1 pm. Please call 628-9769 for further information.
