After almost destroying the Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT), the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is happy to see Roberto Peon resign as CEO of TSTT, John Julien, Secretary General, Communication Workers Union (CWU) said on Friday. Peon tendered his resignation last week with three months notice after having served as CEO of TSTT for the past five years.
"We held a meeting with him this morning and we gave a round of applause for his decision to go. We believed he mismanaged the company and that he should go now. We are calling for an audit of the TSTT's finances to see what he will be leaving behind. The financial year of TSTT runs from April to March," Julien told the Guardian.
He also said there are other top executives who should also tender their resignation and these include the chief financial officer, the vice president of human resources and administration and the company's executive vice president, TSTT. "These other executives should go with Peon. They do not deserve to be here," he said. He claims that based on information he has that Goswami will be the next CEO of TSTT.
"Our information is that Goswami will be the next CEO. But we will continue to state that he should go. He is very close to the People's Partnership Government. Nothing is going to change under Goswami as CEO. When our union executive took office in 2008, TSTT's profits were much higher. There has been a drastic reduction of its performance under Peon and Goswami," he said.
Julien would like to see a new CEO who understands human resource relations. "We want to see a new CEO who has a strong background in telecommunications and who understands human resource management. Our union executive only met with Peon three times. That shows the type of person he is," he said.
