Joshua Abraham yesterday ended the winning streak of Elan Mendes beating him 6-2, 7-5, in the Boys Under-18 semi final of the Catch National Junior Tennis Championships, at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, St Clair. The 16-year-old Tobago-born Abraham will face number one seed Akiel Duke in the Under-18 final today. "I played defensively in the first set. He (Mendes) tried to play my game and continued hitting the ball out. In the second set, I played more aggressively and had more rallies and the score came to 5-4. It was more difficult in the second set but I won," said a delighted Abraham.
When asked bout his chances against Duke, the Bishop's High School student said Duke was a tough opponent. "It would be a close game. He has an all round game but I think I have the ability to beat him." Even though Mendes was knocked out of the Under-18 semis, he beat Ethan Ammon in the Under-16 semifinal 5-4 (8) 4-1 and will face Ty Abraham in the Under-16 final today. In the girls division, Kezia Koroma will feature in both the Under-16 and Under-18 finals. Koroma had an easy victory against Carissa Rodulfo, winning 5-3, 4-0 in the Under-16 semi final and a 6-0 ,7-5 victory against DaJohnique Delancy in the Under-18 semis.
