For many it was the best all-inclusive lime for $300. Wednesday's 20th anniversary celebration and awards function for the Triniposse was held at the Queen's Park Oval during a rain break in the second Digicel cricket Test between Australia and the West Indies. Partly sponsored by Carib, 3Zero Rum and the Tourism Development Corporation (TDC), the event also offered premium tequila and whiskey, an assortment of snacks, doubles, sada and even tequila-soaked salt prunes. Then there were the Carib and Digicel girls attired in eye-catching outfits, rising to cheer every boundary struck by a Windies batsman and every Aussie wicket to fall, as well as at the end of every over. Keeping the Triniposse Stand lively as well, were Carib Woodbrook Playboyz and comedian Tommy Joseph. Perpetually in character, during the rain stoppage of play, Tommy even held an imaginary cricket game in the stand with members of the Aussie Posse, with just one significant catch-they played with no ball.
Then came the actual awards and among those being honoured and being presented with trophies and plaques were Triniposse members Peter Mathews and Colin Borde; Brian Lara, Machel Montano; Carib's Colin Murray; Digicel's Pixie Du Coudray; Johnny Soong; and, Guardian Media Ltd's Peter Ray Blood. Posthumously honoured were departed Triniposse members the late Richard de Souza and Joey Carew. Organisations which have supported the group were also remembered, among them the Trinidad Cricket Board, the Barbados Cricket Association, the West Indies Cricket Board, Trans World Sports, Sky Sports and West Indies Players Association, Carib Brewery, Digicel, Blue Waters, Hadco.
Before the day's special guest-Propht Benjamin-performed, Machel arrived a tad bit late to collect his award with the other awardees but when he did he spontaneously began singing Mr Fete, following by Bottle of Rum. Machel tickled the crowd when he extempored during his latter item, singing, "Don't quarrel, drink 3Zero rum and sorrel." Machel also invited Swappi to join him to sing Bucket. With everyone literally on a high and rain seeming to wash the entire post-tea play, Prophet Benjamin extended his extremely popular Throw Wine by adding four extra verses. The actual awards ceremony was opened with an address by TDC chairman Rajiv Shandilya. Also officiating was former Minister of Sport Manohar Ramsarran.
