Savion Lara was the star for Barataria South Secondary yesterday, leading his team to a seven-wicket victory over recently promoted Trinity East College in the semifinals of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Daren Ganga T20 InterCol Tournament. Trinity won the toss and batted first making 85 all out in 18.4 overs with Clinton Changar getting 40 runs and Hance Kallichran 13. The top bowlers for Barataria were Savion Lara 2-17, Shaquille Johnson 3-11 and Kion Webster 2-16. When Barataria batted, Lara and Webster shared a partnership of 35 runs, leading their team home at 88/3.
Lara was the top scorer in the game with 47. In the other semi-final six-time Secondary School Intercol winners Princess Town West lost by six wickets to El Dorado East Secondary at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Balmain, Couva. Princestown West batting first scored 94 for nine off 20 overs with Brandon Narinesingh 15 and Terence Nanan 21 the main scorers. In reply, Ewart Nicholson got 44 runs to lead his team home. Both teams will meet in the finals on Friday at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre from 6.30 pm.
