My thanks goes out to Khalid Has­sanali, the new Petrotrin pres­i­dent, for the re­lief he has brought to the trav­el­ling pub­lic who use the South­ern Main Road through Pointe-a-Pierre. Petrotrin start­ed main­te­nance work at the Pointe-a-Pierre re­fin­ery in June last year, which re­quired con­tract labour.

This brought about dai­ly hor­rors for com­muters who use this route, due to the in­dis­crim­i­nate park­ing on the grass verges and road­way by those work­ers. Traf­fic jams from 7 am turned a five-minute jour­ney in­to al­most an hour. The near­by mall was un­der siege as oth­er work­ers parked their cars there. Le­git­i­mate mall users were in­con­ve­nienced as they were un­able to find park­ing when try­ing to con­duct busi­ness.

Let­ters to the news­pa­pers and Petrotrin brought no re­sponse. How­ev­er, as soon as Has­sanali took over, park­ing be­came more or­gan­ised and the dai­ly traf­fic jam dis­ap­peared. I hope that Has­sanali will now do all in his pow­er to re­store the grounds and grass verges around Pointe-a-Pierre to their for­mer im­mac­u­late con­di­tion.
