A teenager was killed and five others injured in an early-morning accident yesterday in which a car plunged down a 25-foot precipice. Police believe the Nissan Sunny B-14 in which 16-year-old Kyle Garcia, of Third Company Road, Indian Walk, Princes Town, was travelling may have been overloaded. Garcia, a student of the Princes Town East Secondary School, died around 6 am at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, after he suffered multiple head injuries. His neighbours, Nadia Mahabir, 26; Greg Perez, 22; Matthew Barclay, 27; and Dereck Perez 26, remained in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital up to late yesterday.
The driver, 26-year-old Kerron Brown, of Petit Cafe Road, Princes Town, was listed in a serious but stable condition. According to reports, around 1 am, the group of friends was travelling east along Manahambre Road, Princes Town. At Jordan Hill Village, Brown reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle and that made his car plummet down a precipice. Passers-by contacted the Princes Town Police and a party of officers, led by Cpl Sookdeo, responded, accompanied by ambulances. The injured were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital and Garcia was later transferred to the Accident and Emergency Ward at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Investigations are continuing.
