Two teams, Touches and Mash Dem Down both advanced to the 2012 national final of the Guinness Street Football Final, after both reaching the final of the North West Zone, which was competed at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo, on Saturday. They advanced to the national final as the zone was open to the most registered teams of the tournament-18 teams. In the end, it was a last minute effort from Coneal Thomas, which sealed the 1–0 zonal win for Touches. He led the scoring for the team throughout the day, scoring three goals, all of which were match winners. Thomas also scored the winning sudden-death penalty for Touches in its semifinal win over Group D winner 2TTR.
Touches topped their Group (B), winning all three matches, while Mash Dem Down did the same with four wins in as many matches. Touches and Mash Dem Down joins Merger (North East), Foundation (Central), Skillz That Killz (South), Junior Mafia (East), WHIM (Tobago) and Drifterz Answer Back (Tobago). The national final is set to kick off this Saturday at the Jean Pierre Complex, with Soca Warriors striker and skipper Kenwyne Jones expected to be present trophies to the successful participants. Jones, the tournament ambassador will also host a penalty shootout. Entertainment will be provided by reggae artistes Marlon Asher and Prophet Benjamin. Entry to the venue is free.
