Antigua and Barbuda Minister of State in the Ministry of Sport and Education, Winston Williams Jr, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Sport Anil Roberts, at the Ministry's office on Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain. The objective of this meeting was to speak with Roberts on matters that pertained to supporting the concept of a Caricom Ministers meeting. Roberts welcomed the discussion with Williams on the importance of communicating with other ministers across the region with the intent of bringing greater attention to sport and recreation. This was an initiative of the first Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) meeting held in Antigua in April of this year. Discussions were held on issues relating to cricket.
Williams is on a regional tour to a number of countries with Anne Jonas, co-ordinator of planning and project management. This trip is being used to gain support for a second OECS Ministers of Sport meeting which they are hoping will take place in April, next year. The meeting between ministers proved to be a successful one as Roberts advised that in principle he was in full agreement with the request and was prepared to have T&T play an important role in facilitating the process.
An official letter will be sent to Roberts requesting support for the Caricom Ministers meeting. Senator Williams has already garnered the support of OECS ministers for this improved communication initiative. He hopes that other minister of Caricom will support this new regional discussion on sport and recreation. Before his departure, the visiting minister was presented with a memento of T&T.
