The Orisa community is repeating its call to the government for the declaration of Sango Day as a public holiday in recognition of the contribution of the Orisa community to the development of Trinidad & Tobago.
The first joint public celebration of the Sango Festival, hosted by the Association of African Traditions in Trinidad and Tobago and the National Council of Orisha Elders of Trinidad and Tobago and Eniyan Wa will be held at the Lopinot Ancestral Heritage Site, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, on July 22.
The Egungun masquerade and ancestral procession will begin at approximately 8.30 am, followed by ancestral tributes to the late spiritual heads of the Orisa community, Olori Awo, Clarence Forde and Iyalorisha Ijoye Melvina Rodney. The traditional fire ritual offerings to Sango will take place at noon.
