An 81-year-old woman who left her house ear­ly Mon­day to fetch wa­ter at a near­by pond was found dead in the same body of wa­ter. Rel­a­tives of 81-year-old Soob­giah Seecha­ran, of Nanan Trace, Bar­rack­pore, said she suf­fered from epilep­sy and was se­nile.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, Seecha­ran left her house to go to a near­by pond to fetch wa­ter around 1 am but ap­par­ent­ly slipped and fell in. Her son, Frank Seecha­ran, told po­lice when he could not find his moth­er in­side the house he searched out­side and found her float­ing in the wa­ter around 7 am. Po­lice of­fi­cers from the Bar­rack­pore sta­tion led by de­tec­tive Ramkissoon vis­it­ed the scene and pulled her body out of the wa­ter.

The Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer ex­am­ined the body and found no signs of vi­o­lence. Seecha­ran's body was re­moved to the mor­tu­ary of the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for an au­top­sy. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
