An 81-year-old woman who left her house early Monday to fetch water at a nearby pond was found dead in the same body of water. Relatives of 81-year-old Soobgiah Seecharan, of Nanan Trace, Barrackpore, said she suffered from epilepsy and was senile.
According to reports, Seecharan left her house to go to a nearby pond to fetch water around 1 am but apparently slipped and fell in. Her son, Frank Seecharan, told police when he could not find his mother inside the house he searched outside and found her floating in the water around 7 am. Police officers from the Barrackpore station led by detective Ramkissoon visited the scene and pulled her body out of the water.
The District Medical Officer examined the body and found no signs of violence. Seecharan's body was removed to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital for an autopsy. Investigations are continuing.
