The murder toll rose to 223 yesterday following a fatal shooting in Belmont. The dead man has been identified as Wayne Ollivierra, 40, an events planner of Glouster Lodge Road. He was the son of the late Franklyn Ollivierra, of Phase II Pan Groove steelband. Around 10.30 am, officers received a report that loud explosions were heard in the area and residents later discovered Ollivierra's body on the road.
Officers of the Port-of-Spain CID, led by ASP Ajith Persad, along with Insp Nesbitt and PC Ramdath of the Belmont police visited the scene. Up to last night, officers remained puzzled about the motive for Ollivierra's killing as he was not known to officers. In a separate incident around 8 pm on Saturday, two men were shot while liming at Harpe Place, Port-of-Spain.
According to reports, Aaron Philip, 16, of Hermitage Road, Belmont, and Rashide Wilson, 29, of Harpe Place were standing on the road near Wilson's home with several other friends, when a B15 sentra car with three occupants drove past. It is reported that the men opened fire on the group, hitting Philip in the back and Wilson in the neck. The injured men were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they both underwent emergency surgery and were said to be in a stable condition yesterday.
