I de­lib­er­ate­ly re­mained silent on the re­cent­ly im­ple­ment­ed traf­fic plan in Wood­brook and St James, Port-of-Spain. This en­tire arrange­ment has caused me sleep­less nights and tremen­dous wor­ry. So I de­cid­ed to re­vis­it the plan and try to come up with work­able so­lu­tions in the in­ter­est of all.

I pre­sent­ed my ideas to the Min­is­ter of Works, Em­manuel George and the trans­porta­tion plan­ner, Adande Pig­gott. They were both in favour. Fol­low­ing is what was pro­posed and ac­cept­ed:

• On the West­ern Main Road, a spe­cial lane head­ing east from George Cabral Street to Roxy Round­about be des­ig­nat­ed for use by maxi-taxis and taxis on­ly. Two lanes head­ing west re­main.

• Hy­der­abad Street re­verts to a two-way street

• Ob­serve the flow of traf­fic be­fore mak­ing Weekes Street a two-way street again.

• Pedes­tri­an cross­ings be placed along the West­ern Main Road, Tra­garete Road and Ari­api­ta Av­enue.

I am hop­ing that these sug­ges­tions will be im­ple­ment­ed and that they ease the bur­den of pedes­tri­ans, the trav­el­ling pub­lic and dri­vers.
