I deliberately remained silent on the recently implemented traffic plan in Woodbrook and St James, Port-of-Spain. This entire arrangement has caused me sleepless nights and tremendous worry. So I decided to revisit the plan and try to come up with workable solutions in the interest of all.
I presented my ideas to the Minister of Works, Emmanuel George and the transportation planner, Adande Piggott. They were both in favour. Following is what was proposed and accepted:
• On the Western Main Road, a special lane heading east from George Cabral Street to Roxy Roundabout be designated for use by maxi-taxis and taxis only. Two lanes heading west remain.
• Hyderabad Street reverts to a two-way street
• Observe the flow of traffic before making Weekes Street a two-way street again.
• Pedestrian crossings be placed along the Western Main Road, Tragarete Road and Ariapita Avenue.
I am hoping that these suggestions will be implemented and that they ease the burden of pedestrians, the travelling public and drivers.
