The Indian Classical Singers and Drummers Association will host a grand classical singing and traditional chutney show on Independence Day, at 3 pm at the Couva South Multi-Purpose Hall, Couva. Devanand Sookram, co-ordinator of the event said the exhibition is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of this country's Independence. "We feel that the concept of national diversity is of paramount importance to the development of a nation and a society, and we feel that this programme of our association will contribute in whatever way possible to promote diversity and social integration," he said.
Some of the nation's top Indian classical singers will be on the programme including, Jameer Hosein, Dubraj Persad, Moonilal Gildharie, Ramesh Basdeo, Vijai Ramkissoon, Baliram Bala, Rawl Ramjit Singh, Devanand Sookram, Manmohan Gosine and Lutchman Persad. Drummers will include Rishi Ragbir, Randy Balkaran, Bobby Maharaj, Jagdeo Debiram, Vinod Gangapersad, Ravi Persad, Deo Nanan, Sanjaya Yankatasu and Ashton Beharry. "We encourage the public to join with us to celebrate our 50th anniversary of Independence," Sookram said.
