Minister of National Security Jack Warner has been praised for his keen interest in addressing concerns of fisherfolk of the Felicity/Charlieville community. And as a token of their appreciation, executive members of the newly-launched Felicity/Charlieville Fishing Association on Saturday paid a visit to Warner, the MP for Chaguanas West, at his constituency office on Caroni Savannah Road, Chaguanas.
The fishermen, led by president David Bachan, thanked the minister for being instrumental in the launch of the association and his continued involvement in their ongoing activities. Only last month Warner unveiled a notice board on the banks of the Cunupia River on which the Felicity/Charlieville Fishing Association will post news and announcements.
Already Warner has been instrumental in having a dredging project started on the important waterway to follow up on his introduction of a heavy duty pump stationed near the river to prevent flooding. Bachan, the livewire behind the fishing association, also presented to Warner proposals for the development of the Felicity fishing community. They said he was genuinely enthusiastic about moving forward with the residents of his constituency.
On Thursday the association issued 170 fishing permits to fishermen which was hailed as a very important step in regularising the fisherfolk and also providing exciting opportunities for them in the industry. At the meeting on Saturday, Warner renewed his commitment to the association and pledged full support in working along with the association in its quest to build a modern fishing depot in Felicity/Charlieville in Felicity.
