Op­po­si­tion Leader Dr Kei­th Row­ley is seek­ing a meet­ing with the leader of the Move­ment for So­cial Jus­tice (MSJ) David Ab­du­lah to for­mu­late a pro­gramme of ac­tion to deal with chal­lenges fac­ing the coun­try. Ab­du­lah is a for­mer Peo­ple's Part­ner­ship sen­a­tor who quit the coali­tion on the eve of its sec­ond an­niver­sary in May.

Row­ley wrote to Ab­du­lah on Thurs­day, two days af­ter Ab­du­lah joined the PNM in a march from Port-of-Spain to the Of­fice of the Pres­i­dent at St Ann's to de­liv­er a pe­ti­tion against the con­tro­ver­sial procla­ma­tion of Sec­tion 34 of the Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Jus­tice (In­dictable Pro­ceed­ings) Act 2011. That act was re­pealed dur­ing an emer­gency sit­ting of the Par­lia­ment.

Row­ley wrote: "I am here­in re­quest­ing that we meet for dis­cus­sions, as re­spon­si­ble lead­ers, com­mit­ted to ad­vanc­ing the coun­try's in­ter­est by over­com­ing any and all chal­lenges which now ex­ist or which lurk along the road ahead." Row­ley said his let­ter was in "the name and in­ter­est of all the peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go, on be­half of all our cit­i­zens who de­pend on us."

He said he was con­fi­dent the de­lib­er­a­tions would be suc­cess­ful "in help­ing each oth­er to bet­ter dis­charge our oblig­a­tions to those whom we un­der­take to serve." Row­ley said he was avail­able for dis­cus­sions with the MSJ on all mat­ters of na­tion­al sig­nif­i­cance at the ear­li­est pos­si­ble op­por­tu­ni­ty.
