Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley is seeking a meeting with the leader of the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) David Abdulah to formulate a programme of action to deal with challenges facing the country. Abdulah is a former People's Partnership senator who quit the coalition on the eve of its second anniversary in May.
Rowley wrote to Abdulah on Thursday, two days after Abdulah joined the PNM in a march from Port-of-Spain to the Office of the President at St Ann's to deliver a petition against the controversial proclamation of Section 34 of the Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act 2011. That act was repealed during an emergency sitting of the Parliament.
Rowley wrote: "I am herein requesting that we meet for discussions, as responsible leaders, committed to advancing the country's interest by overcoming any and all challenges which now exist or which lurk along the road ahead." Rowley said his letter was in "the name and interest of all the people of Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of all our citizens who depend on us."
He said he was confident the deliberations would be successful "in helping each other to better discharge our obligations to those whom we undertake to serve." Rowley said he was available for discussions with the MSJ on all matters of national significance at the earliest possible opportunity.
