The local pairs of Ayanna Dyette and Elki Phillip and Christian Francois and Kevin Rivers will both be in action when the Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit visits Chula Vista, California for the eighth stop of the continental tour, a double-gender event from today until Sunday.
It will be the second time in three years the US Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California is hosting an event of the Norceca Circuit, the previous one having taken place in 2010. In addition to Dyette and Phillip, the St Lucian team of Gifta Francois and Dana Hamilton are the other Caribbean women teams involved in the ten-team tournament in which Puerto Rico's Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin who triumphed in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico being favourites.
Mexico's Bibi Candelas, who claimed the titles in Cayman Islands and at home in Toluca combining with Mayra Garcia, will be teaming up with Martha Revuelta. In the men's tourney, the T&T pair along with Turks and Caicos Islands' James Cuero and Arnold Delancy, and US?Virgin Islands' Marc Lomeli and Anthony Pippen are the Caribbean representatives and will come up against Puerto Rico's Roberto "Rafu" Rodriguez and Erick Haddock who are one of several multi-winners of 2012 taking part. Rodriguez combined with Haddock to win the Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico events, but he also won in Guatemala and Dominican Republic partnering with Pablo Guzman and Orlando Irizarry respectively.
Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, T&T and hosts USA have registered teams in both genders. El Salvador, US Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos will compete only in the men's division while Saint Lucia will play in the women's competition. Matches serve off from 9 am (12 noon T&T time) today with pool play which will continue tomorrow until playoff matches start at 1 pm (4 pm TT time). Semifinals and finals are scheduled for Sunday from 12 noon and 2 pm while the bronze medal match start at 2.30 pm. The women's bronze medal match will be at 3.30 pm and the gold medal match at 4.30 pm and the men's final, from 5.30 pm.
