A 24-year-old soldier assigned to Camp Cumuto who was shot on Saturday has been treated and discharged from hospital. Aaron Charles was yesterday said to be recuperating at home. Charles was reportedly shot around 3 am on September 29, while he and another soldier were walking along KP Lands, Valencia. Police said the two soldiers were on patrol when they heard a loud explosion, and Charles realised he had been shot in the upper left thigh.
He was taken to the Sangre Grande hospital, where he was treated and discharged. PC Castillo of the Valencia Police Post is continuing inquiries. In a separate incident, around 12.10 am on Saturday, PCs Lackraj and Sankar led by PC Castillo arrested two men after they were found with a .38 revolver and four rounds of ammunition.
The suspects-a 34-year-old shopkeeper of La Canoe Road, Santa Cruz, and a 31-year-old man of Mc Carthy Street, Upper Santa Cruz-were held in a car on the Eastern Main Road, Valencia. They will appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-soldier of Bournes Road, St James, will appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today, charged for marijuana possession. The soldier was arrested around 2 pm on Saturday after officers executed a search warrant at his home. Along with the drugs, officers also seized a digital scale used to weigh the narcotics. PC Constantine is continuing inquiries.
