A 24-year-old sol­dier as­signed to Camp Cu­mu­to who was shot on Sat­ur­day has been treat­ed and dis­charged from hos­pi­tal. Aaron Charles was yes­ter­day said to be re­cu­per­at­ing at home. Charles was re­port­ed­ly shot around 3 am on Sep­tem­ber 29, while he and an­oth­er sol­dier were walk­ing along KP Lands, Va­len­cia. Po­lice said the two sol­diers were on pa­trol when they heard a loud ex­plo­sion, and Charles re­alised he had been shot in the up­per left thigh.

He was tak­en to the San­gre Grande hos­pi­tal, where he was treat­ed and dis­charged. PC Castil­lo of the Va­len­cia Po­lice Post is con­tin­u­ing in­quiries. In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, around 12.10 am on Sat­ur­day, PCs Lack­raj and Sankar led by PC Castil­lo ar­rest­ed two men af­ter they were found with a .38 re­volver and four rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

The sus­pects-a 34-year-old shop­keep­er of La Ca­noe Road, San­ta Cruz, and a 31-year-old man of Mc Carthy Street, Up­per San­ta Cruz-were held in a car on the East­ern Main Road, Va­len­cia. They will ap­pear be­fore a San­gre Grande mag­is­trate to­day.

Mean­while, a 27-year-sol­dier of Bournes Road, St James, will ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate to­day, charged for mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion. The sol­dier was ar­rest­ed around 2 pm on Sat­ur­day af­ter of­fi­cers ex­e­cut­ed a search war­rant at his home. Along with the drugs, of­fi­cers al­so seized a dig­i­tal scale used to weigh the nar­cotics. PC Con­stan­tine is con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
