Hurricane Sandy has made landfall in Jamaica.
High Commissioner to Jamaica Dr Iva Gloudon has said that about 300 T&T university students living on the island are accounted for and being accommodated through temporary shelter arrangements on various university campuses.
Dr Gloudon spoke to the T&T Guardian by phone this afternoon from Jamaica, where a hurricane warning is now in full effect.
Also under hurricane warning are several provinces of Cuba and many islands of the Bahamas.
A tropical storm warning has also been issued for Haiti and several parts of Florida east coast.
A separate public advisory for Tropical Storm Tony has been issued by the US-based National Hurricane Center, which advised there are "no coastal watched or warnings in effect" at this time.
