Curepe Roundabout's T&T Jubilee Edition: 2012 October has just been published. The 48-page issue, designed by artist Adele Todd, features on its front and back covers 50 nation-builders from the area.
These include T&T'S second prime minister George Chambers, the writer, historian and intellectual CLR James, artist and designer Carlisle Chang and Dr Stephen Bennett, veterinarian and breeder of buffalypso.
Organisations which made the year-old community paper's cover include the area's six steelbands-Exodus, Sforzata, Scherzando, Panberi, Tunapuna All Stars and Moods-the Maha Sabha, the Muslim League of T&T, St Joseph's Convent, St Joseph, SAGHS, Hillview and St Augustine Senior Comprehensive.
Pianist Winnifred Atwell and principal Norah Austin were the women who made the CR-50. Cyclist Roger Gibbon and footballer Alvin Corneal are the sportsmen selected, while John Arnold, musical director of the Signal Hill Choir, originally from Petit Bourg, is also included.
Bermudez's Crix biscuit, Carib Beer, d' Original Sauce Doubles and Ramsaran's Dairy Products also made the special jubilee issue cover story. The publication also features a CR-Tobago segment, with a listing of 50 amazing people, places and things contributed by Edward Hernandez, curator of the Tobago Museum. Claire Broadbridge, former curator of the National Museum, writes about the Scarborough Archeological Project.
