With respect to the election of a new president of the republic, I would like to suggest the names of two of the most outstanding citizens of our country and who have served our country truly well. They are Mr Winston Dookeran and Mr Kenneth Lalla, both of whom are highly-recognised professionals and possess the qualities of statesmanship.
Both have been honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws. These are two men of impeccable character and learning. I was the person who advocated the formation of the electoral college to choose a president at the constitutional conference in 1973 at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre before that Illustrious gentleman and eminent jurist, Sir Hugh Wooding.
