For the past few months I have been to several funeral services for stalwarts of the St James area. St James has been and will always be the home of one love. It's a place where different cultures and peoples live in harmony. But since migration to other parts of T&T became popular, St James residents took full advantage of the opportunities available and are spread far and wide. But why is it that we come together only for the passing of former friends/neighbours?
I am proposing that some event be structured to provoke an occasion that will bring together St James people in a joyful way, an event at which we can show our children, our grandchildren, and the newer St James residents how we lived and loved as neighbours and friends in days past. The camaraderie that existed then is still evident whenever we meet.
Having gone to the funeral service of Noel James who was held in high esteem for his patriotism in sport, pan and social work, I contemplated that there must be another way for all these people to come together in a St James atmosphere. Please brothers and sisters, let us take a good look at ourselves and make use of the love we have. Come together and have something that will make us proud of the place we all call home.
