Ambassador of Guatemala Guisela Godinez Sazo hosted a cultural presentation at the auditorium of the Central Bank on November 26. Highlight of the presentation was a display of traditional costumes of Guatemala. The textiles, according to Sazo, are representative of the Guatemala Popular Art, which reflects the history and pluralism of the Guatemalan society.
This way of dress, the ambassador said, is more than a variety of colours, "it is a cultural expression with lots of meaning." Sazo said there was a grand diversity of dresses-in each of the communities the dresses are designed according to the geographic location, gender, age, economic/ social status and occasion.
Before the display of dresses guests were shown a video which gave a vivid portrayal of Guatemalan culture, history and experience. Photographer ANDRE ALEXANDER brought back these highlights.
