Am­bas­sador of Guatemala Guisela Godinez Sazo host­ed a cul­tur­al pre­sen­ta­tion at the au­di­to­ri­um of the Cen­tral Bank on No­vem­ber 26. High­light of the pre­sen­ta­tion was a dis­play of tra­di­tion­al cos­tumes of Guatemala. The tex­tiles, ac­cord­ing to Sazo, are rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the Guatemala Pop­u­lar Art, which re­flects the his­to­ry and plu­ral­ism of the Guatemalan so­ci­ety.

This way of dress, the am­bas­sador said, is more than a va­ri­ety of colours, "it is a cul­tur­al ex­pres­sion with lots of mean­ing." Sazo said there was a grand di­ver­si­ty of dress­es-in each of the com­mu­ni­ties the dress­es are de­signed ac­cord­ing to the ge­o­graph­ic lo­ca­tion, gen­der, age, eco­nom­ic/ so­cial sta­tus and oc­ca­sion.

Be­fore the dis­play of dress­es guests were shown a video which gave a vivid por­tray­al of Guatemalan cul­ture, his­to­ry and ex­pe­ri­ence. Pho­tog­ra­ph­er AN­DRE ALEXAN­DER brought back these high­lights.
