Every morning while I trudge along in traffic on the Diego Martin Highway between Sierra Leone and Crystal Stream, I notice an elderly man taking his morning walk on the shoulder. Inevitably, he has to step off the shoulder onto the grass to allow the maxis, cars and trucks to speed along the shoulder past us patient drivers stuck in the authorised two lanes.
Of course, once cars start to fly down the highway, other impatient drivers swerve out of the lanes and join the bunch. My concern is what if one of them cannot stop in time and hits this elderly man? And what if one of them collides with a car trying to join the shoulder speedsters?
Can the police please put their presence there before someone gets hurt or killed?
