The African Women Association (AWA) held its second annual African History Month celebration last month at the Starlift Pan Theatre, Mucurapo Road, St James.
Performers included the Starlift Steel Orchestra, the Bilan drummers, Royal Sweet-fingers Tambrin Band of Tobago, Megan Walrond and the Xavier Sisters. A release from the association said the evening was "truly delightful."
Popular musicians Royal Sweet-fingers Tambrin Band got patrons on the floor trying several old-time dances like the "brush back"."
Young calypsonian Megan Walrond and Starlift Steel Orchestra were also crowd favourites but it was the sister-duo Xavier Strings who thrilled the audience with its handling of the violin. Those who did not know of the duo commented about the expertise on the instruments.
The sisters' music brought to life the event's theme, Odo Nnyew Fie Kwan, which means love never loses its way home.
