Commissioner of Police Dwayne Gibbs refused to respond to questions by the media concerning the appointment of Professor Ramesh Deosaran as chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) and crime issues in Port-of-Spain. Gibbs and Deputy Commissioner Jack Ewatski were guests at the first quarterly meeting held by the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association (Doma) at Jaffa Restaurant, Queen's Park Oval, Tragarete Road, yesterday. After the meeting, Gibbs tried to evade the media. He said he could not speak and was on his way to another engagement.
Gibbs said he had no comments about Deosaran's appointment on Wednesday. However, when pressed for comments that he would be under review for his service by the new chairman at a meeting next week, Gibbs said: "Again at this point I have no comments to the media as far as Mr Ramesar's (Deosaran) new appointment." When told that Doma had made attempts to meet with him to discuss crime in the city, Gibbs said: "Actually, I'm heading to a meeting right now, so that's where I'm going. "So I'll have to excuse myself because we'll be late for that meeting," he added. (RKR)
