Felix Bellamy, a former Member of Parliament and Arima Mayor, died on Holy Thursday. He was 92 years old.Bellamy served as the parliamentary representative for Arima from 1976 to 1981.Before his entry into the House of Representatives, he served on the Arima Borough Council as a councillor and deputy mayor from 1958 to 1964. He replaced Percy Cezair, who died earlier this month, as mayor in 1964.
Bellamy was one of the founding members of the People's National Movement (PNM) and was very active in the Arima. He is survived by his wife Edith, children Brenda, Cheryl, Michael and Noel, and several grandchildren. PNM general secretary Ashton Ford, who expressed condolences to the Bellamy family on behalf of the party, said he had known Bellamy my whole life growing up in Arima and was his successor as the MP for Arima in 1981. "He was known as the 'people's representative' because of his simple lifestyle," Ford said.Bellamy's funeral will take place on Wednesday.
