Pan American gold medallist in the Match Sprint, Quincy Alexander has credited his coach and former president of the T&T Cycling Federation Robert Farrier for his success in Argentina two weeks ago.The 17-year-old, who beat Barbados' Javed Mounter in a best-of-three final to win the gold, said that Farrier's guidance had helped him to become a more mature cyclist."Before the finals, the two of us had been looking at videos and he would guide me as to how I should ride each race," he said. "There reached a point where we were able to read the plays of the other riders before they did them."Alexander also cited hard work, his faith in God and encouragement from his family as reasons for his good performance.
"Going into the event, I went through months of training to create this opportunity and it was just up to me to do the work so that at the end of it, I could produce a great ride."Describing his achievement as the highlight of his career, he said he would be using it as a platform for bigger things."Winning an event at the Pan Ams makes me feel really elated because this is a very high level of competition. It's quite a vast region, so it's a good accomplishment to have under your belt."The 6'4" rider is currently working towards qualifying for the upcoming Junior World Championships before he moves on to senior level competition.
