Shaquille Bertrand scored two second-half goals as Joe Public battled to an entertaining 4-3 triumph over rival W Connection for its sixth straight win in as many matches in the Under-17 Division of the Oasis T&T Pro Youth League at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, on Sunday. Marcus Gomez (second minute) and Dwight Quintero (fourth minute) netted very early for Joe Public to take a 2-0 lead, but W Connection hit back with three unanswered goals from Rondell Phillip (21st), Neil Benjamin Jr (50th) and Kareem Garcia (55th) to lead 3-2. Seven minutes later Bertrand drew Joe Public level and with nine minutes left in the match he slammed in the winner to carry his club to a maximum 18 points from six matches and a six-point lead over Adams' Construction San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection. At the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground, Jabloteh got a goal each from three different players in a 3-1 whipping of host club, DirecTV North East Stars.
In other matches, joint fourth-placed clubs, T&TEC and St Ann's Rangers registered comfortable victories over Ma Pau and Police respectively. Shackeil Henry netted a hat-trick and Akeem Julien and Lashawn Marcano two each for the Electricity Boys in their 8-3 blowout of Ma Pau at Trinity College East Ground, Trincity, while Dylon King netted twice for Rangers in their 4-0 demolition of Police. In the Under-15 age group, W Connection showed its class against Joe Public and came away with a 4-0 win inspired by a hat-trick from Yafeu Rougier (19th, 67th, 83rd) and one by Mark Phillip.
With the easy win, its sixth from six outings, W Connection, one of three clubs yet to drop a point in the age-group, pushed its point tally to 18, three ahead Jabloteh, Caledonia AIA and T&TEC which were all in winners row as well. For Jabloteh, Akeem Garcia and Kyle Lancaster scored two goals each in an 8-3 thrashing of Stars; Caledonia edged FC South End 2-1 thanks to an 89th minute winner from Andy Huggins while a Keston Purcell double led T&TEC to a 3-1 win over Ma Pau. In the day's first set of matches, in the Under-13 division, W Connection also got past Joe Public in a 6-5 thriller despite Jesse Joseph's four goals for the losers. The "Savonneta Boys" as W Connection are known also kept their 100 per cent winning record intact to lead with 18 points, five ahead of St Ann's Rangers which whipped Police 4-1.
