The smooth melodies of reggae, the sweet sounds of soca, and pulsating rhythms of chutney will converge in the Queen's Park Savannah on Sunday. The massive event labelled Super-Star Sunday, will follow on the heels of the 30th International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), and will feature thrilling performances from several of the IRAWMA nominees and eventual winners. In his first major, full-length, local performance since Carnival 2011, Machel Montano will once again ignite the savannah with his HD band.
Co-headlining this night before the holiday event will be the award winning Shaggy with his dynamic musical entourage, and popular reggae music balladeer Jah Cure, who is well loved for his lovers rock hits such as Longing For and Unconditional Love. Adding to this fusion of the genres will be the presence of Roy Cape and his All-Stars, Denise Belfon and General Grant, who will share the Super-Star Sunday stage with the Queen Ifrica, inspirational singer Winsome Benjamin, Ghanaian artiste and tourism ambassador Rocky Dawuni, and up and coming hit maker Soul Rebel.
This show of shows will also present a special Indian Arrival Day gift to the nation in the form of a unique showcase by the National Chutney Foundation. This showcase will feature performances from chutney stars and bands including the Melo Bugz band and Heeralal Rampartap. The event is hosted by Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage.
