In­clement weath­er failed to damp­en the ac­tiv­i­ties of the an­nu­al Fam­i­ly Fun Day host­ed by the Min­istry of Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment June 4 at Har­ry's Wa­ter­park in Rio Claro. In­stead the down­pours gave en­cour­age­ment to the Min­istry's staff to rep­re­sent and dis­play their par­tic­u­lar area/di­vi­sion. The event be­gan at 10.30 am with a wel­come from the em­cee for the day Er­rol Fa­bi­en. In a brief ad­dress, Nizam Baksh, Min­is­ter of Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment en­cour­aged staff to en­joy the fun ac­tiv­i­ties, as he de­clared the Fam­i­ly Fun Day of­fi­cial­ly start­ed. Rep­re­sen­ta­tion of the theme, Our Her­itage, in­clud­ed D' Sa­van­nah by the head of­fice team; Tur­tle Watch­ing by St An­drew/St David; Lim­in at Mara­cas Beach by St George East; Sug­ar Cane from Ca­roni; San Fer­nan­do Hill by Vic­to­ria West; and We Mad by St Ann's.

The com­mu­ni­ty de­vel­op­ment staff and their fam­i­lies par­tic­i­pat­ed in char­i­ot races and oth­er fun filled events, which pro­vid­ed lots of en­ter­tain­ment for on­look­ers and team sup­port­ers. Ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ed the log race, ski race, sack re­lay, 100 me­tres-male and fe­male, tug-o-war, char­i­ot race, catch de bal­loon and con­trol de dance. There were oth­er events es­pe­cial­ly tar­get­ed to chil­dren which in­clud­ed face paint­ing, brand tub, fish­ing pond and wheel of for­tune. Every­one had the op­por­tu­ni­ty to ex­plore the wa­ter­park, which of­fered pools, slides, kayaks and pad­dle boats, wildlife and na­ture trail, a boun­cy cas­tle, and a play park. At the end of the day the Head Of­fice team emerged win­ner of the over­all sport­ing ac­tiv­i­ties, while the Na­tion­al Com­mis­sion for Self Help Com­pa­ny Ltd won the tug of war fi­nals.
