Inclement weather failed to dampen the activities of the annual Family Fun Day hosted by the Ministry of Community Development June 4 at Harry's Waterpark in Rio Claro. Instead the downpours gave encouragement to the Ministry's staff to represent and display their particular area/division. The event began at 10.30 am with a welcome from the emcee for the day Errol Fabien. In a brief address, Nizam Baksh, Minister of Community Development encouraged staff to enjoy the fun activities, as he declared the Family Fun Day officially started. Representation of the theme, Our Heritage, included D' Savannah by the head office team; Turtle Watching by St Andrew/St David; Limin at Maracas Beach by St George East; Sugar Cane from Caroni; San Fernando Hill by Victoria West; and We Mad by St Ann's.
The community development staff and their families participated in chariot races and other fun filled events, which provided lots of entertainment for onlookers and team supporters. Activities included the log race, ski race, sack relay, 100 metres-male and female, tug-o-war, chariot race, catch de balloon and control de dance. There were other events especially targeted to children which included face painting, brand tub, fishing pond and wheel of fortune. Everyone had the opportunity to explore the waterpark, which offered pools, slides, kayaks and paddle boats, wildlife and nature trail, a bouncy castle, and a play park. At the end of the day the Head Office team emerged winner of the overall sporting activities, while the National Commission for Self Help Company Ltd won the tug of war finals.
