Southern Western Division officers arrested 81 people and issued 121 traffic tickets to drivers for varying offences during a police operation over the weekend. The anti-crime exercise, co-ordinated by Senior Superintendents Deodath Dulalchan and Maynard, were assisted by officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Crime Suppression Unit, High Performance Team, Task Force and Court and Process.
A total of 60 drivers were charged with driving without seatbelts.
The anti-crime initiative was part of an ongoing series of activities aimed at controlling crime. The exercises were conducted in Princes Town, Moruga, San Fernando, Gasparillo, St Margaret's and Marabella. Prior to the anti-crime exercise officers engaged in a marijuana eradication exercise in the La Lune Forest where hundreds of trees were destroyed. Suspects held during the exercises for various criminal offences are expected to appear in court today.
