All cit­i­zens of T&T and non-na­tion­als of dis­tinc­tion, alive or de­ceased, are el­i­gi­ble to be con­sid­ered for a na­tion­al award.This re­minder was giv­en by the of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter yes­ter­day in prepa­ra­tions for the an­nu­al up­com­ing awards on In­de­pen­dence Day, Au­gust 31.Any per­son wish­ing to nom­i­nate an in­di­vid­ual for a na­tion­al award should ob­tain and fill out a nom­i­na­tion for a na­tion­al award form.The clos­ing date for the re­ceipt of nom­i­na­tions for this year is Ju­ly 29.Cat­e­gories of Na­tion­al Awards:

•The Or­der of the Re­pub­lic of T&T-for dis­tin­guished and out­stand­ing ser­vice to T&T.

•The Cha­co­nia Medal-for long and mer­i­to­ri­ous ser­vice to T&T that pro­motes the na­tion­al wel­fare or strength­ens the com­mu­ni­ty spir­it.

•The Hum­ming Bird Medal-for loy­al and de­vot­ed ser­vice, ben­e­fi­cial to T&T in any field of hu­man en­deav­our or for gal­lantry or oth­er hu­mane ac­tion.

•The Medal of Mer­it- for out­stand­ing and mer­i­to­ri­ous ser­vice in the pub­lic ser­vice, the De­fence and Pro­tec­tive Ser­vices or with statu­to­ry bod­ies per­form­ing na­tion­al func­tions.
