All citizens of T&T and non-nationals of distinction, alive or deceased, are eligible to be considered for a national award.This reminder was given by the office of the Prime Minister yesterday in preparations for the annual upcoming awards on Independence Day, August 31.Any person wishing to nominate an individual for a national award should obtain and fill out a nomination for a national award form.The closing date for the receipt of nominations for this year is July 29.Categories of National Awards:
•The Order of the Republic of T&T-for distinguished and outstanding service to T&T.
•The Chaconia Medal-for long and meritorious service to T&T that promotes the national welfare or strengthens the community spirit.
•The Humming Bird Medal-for loyal and devoted service, beneficial to T&T in any field of human endeavour or for gallantry or other humane action.
•The Medal of Merit- for outstanding and meritorious service in the public service, the Defence and Protective Services or with statutory bodies performing national functions.

•Central Administrative Services, Tobago- Jerningham Street, Scarborough, Tobago;
•The Tobago House of Assembly-Calder Hall Administrative Complex, Calder Hall, Tobago;
