Madonna Wheelers' Roger Smart clocked two hours, 48 minutes and six seconds to win the Men's 40-49 92km race in the first event of the National Road Race Championships, which began and ended in Valencia on Sunday. Smart edged the Bike Smith pair of Cecil Hackett and Mark Smith, who placed second and third respectively, while Parkside Cycling Club's Wendell Noel placed fourth. The race began in Valencia before moving on to the Sangre Grande stretch and along the Toco Road and then on to the Valencia back road.
In the Juniors 92km race, Arima Wheelers' Kwesi Browne got the better of Parkside's Jimmone Roberts to claim the title in 2:42:26. Rigtech Sonics' Demetri Harvey and Parkside's Christian-Mark Fairley were third and fourth respectively. Riding unattached, Mark Antonio won the Masters 50-59 59km race in a time of 2:07:14, beating Rafmon Mecalfab's Stephen Aboud. The championships will continue this Sunday with the Criterium in all categories taking place at King George V Park in St Clair beginning at 2 pm.
